Rep. Schmaltz: Jackson County road project awarded state funding

State Rep. Kathy Schmaltz today announced the Jackson County Department of Transportation will receive a state grant to resurface a portion of Airport Road near I-94 in Blackman Charter Township.

The $375,000 grant from the state Transportation Economic Development Fund will help fund work on Airport Road from I-94 north to County Farm Road. The project, planned for 2025, includes milling and resurfacing with two courses of asphalt, upgrades to sidewalk ramps to meet ADA standards, replacing curbs, and painting new pavement markings.

“I’m so grateful that Jackson County was awarded this money,” said Schmaltz, R-Jackson. “Fixing the roads is one of my main priorities because I know it’s important to the people in our community. This project will result in a smoother, safer drive along a route many families travel daily.”

The total project is estimated to cost $624,331, with the local road commission covering $249,331.
